Government sets out Delay Repay and rail-ticket refund changes
Plans under Great British Railways include a consolidated compensation service and a new deadline for unused-ticket refunds.
The UK Government says it plans to merge Delay Repay compensation systems into a single service under Great British Railways.
Passengers would be able to claim compensation through the retailer from which they bought a ticket, including third-party retailers such as Trainline, according to the announcement.
The government says trials to check railcard use are due to begin later in 2026. It also says that from 1 April 2026, unused tickets will be refundable only until 23:59 on the day they become valid for travel.
These are UK Government plans; passengers in Wales should check the applicable operator and ticket terms for their journey.
