Wales was the only UK nation to grow new bus registrations in Q2, SMMT says

SMMT recorded 119 new buses, coaches and minibuses in Wales, up 138% year-on-year, while the UK market fell by half.

Wales was the only UK nation to record growth in new bus, coach and minibus registrations during the second quarter of 2026, according to SMMT data.

The trade body recorded 119 registrations in Wales, up 138.0% on the same quarter a year earlier. SMMT said the rise was due in part to Welsh Government investment in public transport, particularly the TrawsCymru network.

Across the UK, registrations fell 50.6% to 1,465. Zero-emission bus deliveries fell 37.0% to 388, although their share of registrations rose to 26.5%, SMMT said.
